How engagement rate is calculated
Engagement rate is the share of your audience that interacts with a post. The most common version — the one this calculator uses — divides a post's interactions by your follower count:
Likes and comments are the core; add shares and saves where your platform reports them. For a truer number, average the interactions across your last several posts rather than reading a single one.
What's a good engagement rate?
These are general cross-platform guides, not hard rules — engagement varies by platform and audience size, and smaller accounts often run higher.
| Engagement rate | Verdict |
|---|---|
| 6% and above | Excellent |
| 3.5% – 6% | Strong |
| 1% – 3.5% | Average |
| Under 1% | Below average |
Questions
How do you calculate engagement rate?
Add up the interactions on a post — likes, comments, and shares or saves if your platform shows them — divide by your follower count, and multiply by 100. This calculator does it for one post; for a truer picture, average the interactions across your recent posts first.
What is a good engagement rate?
As a general guide across platforms, under 1% is below average, 1–3.5% is around the norm, 3.5–6% is strong, and above 6% is excellent. Smaller, more niche accounts often engage harder than large ones, so a nano-creator can beat a celebrity on rate.
Should I use followers or reach?
This calculator uses followers, which is the figure everyone can see and compare. Rate by reach (interactions ÷ people who saw the post) is more precise, but reach is private to the account owner, so followers is the fairer basis for comparing creators.
Does it work for Instagram, TikTok and X?
Yes. The formula is the same on every platform — only which interactions you can count differs. Enter whatever your platform reports; leave shares and saves blank where they are not shown.
Your rate is only as good as the numbers behind it
A rate typed into a calculator is a claim. On Flixerpay, brands hire creators on reach that has been checked, and pay for work only once it's approved — so a strong rate turns into real campaigns.
- Verified reach, not self-reported follower counts
